I Would Describe Myself As
You wouldn't know from looking at me, seeing how I walk or listening to me talk that I had a "massive" stroke on 9/12/2012 that almost killed me. The only lingering physical effect is that I have lost my right-side peripheral vision. I can see out of both eyes, and from looking straight ahead I can see what's going on to my left, but not to my right. That means that I no longer see well enough to drive. I get around by going where public transit can take me or I walk there.
You would learn quickly these days, after my second stroke, that my aphasia does not affect my intelligence. I’ve been told that I’m a “good” guy. My attitude about my life in general is very much more positive than it is neutral or negative. In fact, instead of describing myself as “never married” I’d rather say “not married yet.”
I’m more of a low-key, quiet kind of guy than I am boisterous. I can stay up late if you want to. I love to read so much that it was how I earned my living. I used to dance a lot (square/contra and swing); still let the radio talk (NPR) and sing to me (blues, folk, traditional country, the rock and roll I grew up with); and play chess.
If you want some help, all you gotta do is let me know. I'll do what I can—even if it's the middle of the night (I've gotten such calls). I believe "friends" are the people who let you call at 4 a.m. I am that kind of friend. (I've gotten those kinds of calls at that hour.)
I'm a go-along kind of guy. I'm more of a giver than I am a taker. I'm an optimist because I believe the alternative is not the path to happiness. I also believe that while peace of mind may be expensive, it's worth what it costs. The principles I guide my behavior by include practicing patience, practicing tolerance, and taking turns.
I like knowing what's going on in the world, so I used to start my day by reading the comics before any other part of the newspaper. I'm not much of a TV watcher, not even for the news—just movies. I am not a sports fan at all. My idea of exercise consists of taking a walk.
I bought into the message of the first Earth Day, and am a dedicated recycler. I believe it is important not to be wasteful.
My "money personality" is more that of a saver than a spender. Despite being cost conscious, I’m also a generous guy.
The woman I seek to meet is someone who wants to be married. I am more compatible with someone who doesn't mind late hours, has a slow and even temper and likes physical displays of affection. If you want your man to be loyal and honest, I’m your man.
For fun, I don't think there can be any greater fun than waltzin' with yer sweetheart unless you wanna count gettin' pulled into a story that takes you from where you are to where the action is.
Some of my favorite activities are slowdancing in the kitchen; getting totally absorbed in an interesting book; staying up late; listening to the blues, turned down low, late at night . . . preferably with my partner.
